Happy summer everyone! We have an exciting opportunity coming up for those of you looking to start studying for the LSAT or if you want to tune your skills!

On July 10th (right before the July 15 LSAT!), we are happy to have The Princeton Review host an LSAT Strategy Class on Burnaby Campus classroom TBA. This class will cover the new electronic version of the LSAT and then jump straight into strategies for the sections!

PLS x CSA: Beat the Heat Summer Pub Night

Take a break from your classes and join SFU Pre-Law Society and Criminology Student Association at The Study for a night of fun, food, and friends at our Beat the Heat Summer Pub Night on July 18th! This is the perfect opportunity to mingle with new people and enjoy the atmosphere at The Study with your friends, with your food and drink in one package! We welcome both members and non-members of PLS and CSA.

Tickets are $15 excluding fees. Your ticket includes a burger (veggie burger or chicken burger), side (fries or salad), and a drink (red or white wine, one highball, or house lager). Tickets for this event are only available through eventbrite or the Facebook page and will not be sold at the door. Your physical copy of the ticket will be provided to you upon arrival at the event.

Please note this event is 19+ only due to the presence of alcohol. Two pieces of ID will be required.

Kaplan Scholarship Raffle

Hope everyone is having a great last couple weeks of the semester!

We are having a raffle for the Kaplan scholarship. The course scholarship code is valued at up to $2499 towards any Kaplan courses, with the exception of the PLUS or Tutoring options. Although a student may choose to pay the difference to enroll in those options. The scholarship will be valid to use until December 1st 2019.

We will be selling the tickets at a table in Saywell Hall through the week of April 1st. Tickets are 1 for $1, 5 for $3, and 10 for $5 🎟

PLS x PSU New SFU Program Info Session

There will be an info session on March 26th at 5:30 in room WMC 4619. The info session will be introducing the new joint major in philosophy, business and law. 

This new program aims to give students a serious background in analytical reasoning and the moral and political foundations of the law while at the same time familiarizing them with core business skills and the intersections of business and the law.

OzTREKK Webinar

On March 19th from 6pm-7pm, OzTREKK will be hosting a webinar for SFU students about studying Law in Australia.

During the webinar you will hear about admission requirements to study Law in Australia, program structure of their Law school’s and the process of returning to Canada to article. During the information session you will hear from a previous Australian Law school admission officer as well as a previous student who is currently practicing in Canada. It will be your time to ask any questions you have ever wondered about studying Law abroad!

Call to the Bar 2.0

Want to celebrate the New Year and kick off the start of the semester? UBC and SFU Pre-Law Society invites you to our Call to the Bar 2.0 pub night at The Portside Pub in Gastown!

Come join us on February 2nd for an exclusive night-out with your fellow mates and our executive members from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. We will have our own designated private area where you can mingle with new people and hang out. After 9 PM, attendees are free to stick around the general pub area.

Tickets are $5, advance sale only through Eventbrite. The ticket will cover the entrance fee and a free shot. Don’t miss out on the free shot only before 8:30! Tickets are valid until 8 PM.

To Law School and Beyond 2019

Join SFU Pre-Law Society in our FREE annual event, To Law School and Beyond on January 28th, 6:30PM - 8:30PM in Harbour Centre room 1400-1410.

We will be hosting four lawyers from the fields of criminal, corporate, and family law.

This event will provide prospective law students with the experience to engage and network with practicing lawyers. Students can gain insight into the legal profession, as well as hear from the lawyers' experience in law school, transitioning from undergrad, and articling.

UBC x SFU Pre-Law: Call to the Bar Social Night

Want to de-stress from exams season? UBC and SFU Pre-Law Society invites you to our Call to the Bar pub night at Blarney Stone in Gastown! Come join us on November 23rd for an exclusive night-out with your fellow mates and our executive members from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Law School Admissions Night

On September 25, we invite you to join the SFU Pre-Law society at our annual event, Law School Admissions Night. Join admissions officers from UBC, UVic, TRU, and UWO Western law school and learn more about requirements, deadlines, campus life, prep, and more! Food and beverages will be provided.

Prison Escape Event Information

The SFU Pre-Law Society and Criminology Student Association are hosting an escape room for all SFU and non-SFU students. 

​

It will be an opportunity to take a break from your schedule and enjoy an exciting group activity with your friends. There will be prizes available to win for groups with the fastest completion times such as free tickests to E Exit, Tim Horton's gift cards, and more. ​

​

It will also be a great way to meet the executive members of both clubs and ask any questions you have about the associations. 

​

Tickets begin at $3 for one person, $5 for a group of three, and $10 for a group of five. This event is a drop-in.

Griffith Law School Information Session

The Pre Law Society, in partnership with OzTREKK, will hold their last information session of the year with guest speakers from Griffith University.

​

If you have ever considered or wondered about studying law abroad this will be an excellent opportunity for you to join an information session from The Dean and The Deputy Head of School, we will also provide FREE food and drinks. The Dean and Deputy Head of School will be joined by a Canadian student (from Vancouver), who is currently studying Law at Griffith. This will be a great opportunity to ask any questions you might have about what it is like to study in Australia and what it takes to return to practice in Canada.

BC Law Schools Admission Night

​

The SFU Pre-Law Society is pleased to invite you to our annual BC Law Schools Admissions Night! Representatives from the University of British Columbia (UBC), University of Victoria (UVIC), and Thompson Rivers University (TRU) will be in attendance to answer questions from the audience. There will also be a representative from Kaplan Test Prep giving a presentation on the notorious law school entrance exam: the LSAT.

We also have a special guest attending from TRU, Ms. Fayme Hodal, who is currently enrolled as a JD student in their law program. This is a chance for attendees to hear a student's perspective of law school, and what she believes are important factors to keep in mind when pursuing a law degree.

It is not often that students are offered the opporunity to speak to representatives from each of BC's law schools in the same room! This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the admission requirements for law school, what each law school offers their students, and how best to prepare for the LSAT.

This free event will be at Simon Fraser University (Burnaby campus), Room AQ 4150. The building & room location will also be emailed to registrants the day before the event. This will be SFU Pre-Law Society's first general meeting of the summer semester.  We invite all of our members to attend as we will be introducing the new Executive Team and speaking about some of our upcoming events.  We will also be facilitating some fun law-related activities as an ice-breaker, followed by a Q&A session so that those of you who attend are able to speak with our Exec team directly about any questions you may have about our Society.
